Auction 960 Contemporary Art

Wednesday, 2 June 2010 - 10.30 am

At the pinnacle of the over 320 object auction is an abstract work from Gerhard Richter from the year 1995 at 250/300.000. The small canvas, where the green tones as well as the black colour are blurred, encircles the constitutive problem of perception and the depiction of reality (Lot 865). After the great success last year with works from Niki de Saint Phalle, Lempertz again offers a large polyester sculpture from the artist. The colourful Ganesha from 1995 is set at 200.000 (Lot 899).

Alighiero Boetti is represented with a 100 x 280 cm large work from 198. Le infinite possibilità di esistere is one of the artist's ball point pen works, and belongs to the most important groups of work in Boettis oeuvre. (Lot 681, 100/150.000). Peter Doig's Ski-Mountainfrom 1995 represents one of his most favoured motifs, the winter landscape (Lot 712, 100/150.000). Ernst Wilhelm Nays Räderbild from 1958 also belongs to the top lots. The very colour–fresh, boldly coloured canvas was produced at the end of the group of works from the so–called Scheibenbilder– the contours have become softer and dissolved (Lot 837, 100/150.000). Albert Oehlen examined, in the untitled large format (Ameise) from 1982 the borders of abstraction and figuration and combined the classical paint application of the paint brush with the new spray technique; the work announced the turning point in his work on to the 'post–non–figurative painting“ (Oehlen) (Lot 844, 90/100.000). Günther Uecker is represented by two of his typical nail pictures. Weiße Spirale from 1986 is a typical example of the artist's later work: the works are laid on the ground, and the artist works directly, expressively and spontaneously on the pieces (Lot 940, 120/150.000). Spirale was produced a year before Uecker represented Germany in the 1970 Venice Biennale and one year before a turning point in his work. Here the nails are still rhythmically and formulaically applied to the work (Lot 939, 100/120.000). Contemporary art makes a strong appearance.

Bernhard Martin combines various techniques and examines the possibilities of painting in his large format, association–rich canvas Egalstationfrom 2008 (Lot 831, 60.000). One untitled, 260 x 220 cm large canvas from Muntean / Rosenblum from the year 2006 is estimated at 20/30.000 (Lot 832). An untitled canvas from Zheng-Jie Feng from the Chinese Portrait Series from the years 2003–2006 is set at 20/30.000 (Lot 832). Seo, amongst others, is represented by a mixed–technique, 150 x 200 cm large, characteristic canvas, in which the influence of her adopted country of Germany is bound with Asian traditions (Lot 905, 30/40.000).
