Two important faience collections and one of Meissen porcelains are the reason Lempertz is presenting porcelain and ceramics in a separate catalogue this spring, comprising 368 lots from different private collections to be auctioned on 12 May. (Collection Dr. Wilhelm Kappesser with early Delft and German blue and white items, as well as a south–German private collection of rare figurative faience and decorative serving dishes of south–German and French manufacture. The unique faience decorative serving dishes from this collection are a feast for the eyes.
Highlight of the porcelain offer is a rare Meissen set of vases from 1740 with three urn-shape lidded vases, the décor in the style of Johann Gregorius Hoeroldt, estimated at 90/120.000 (ill. left, lot 34). Also worth of mentioning is the rare Meissen ”grotesque” pot with Augsburg décor, showing the curiosity and baroque opulence of early porcelain creations (50/100.000, lot 5).

The top lot at furniture is an important 1755 Berlin chest of drawers, attributed to the Court cabinet maker Schilanski – a similar piece now in Potsdam’s New Palais, originally stood in Castle Montbijou (ill. left, 902, 90/100.000).
Highlight of the silver offer is a 1600 Wolf Zapf early baroque Nuremberg lidded tankard (ill. left and above, lot 478) estimated at 25/30.000. A faceted lidded tankard with fine detail from the former property of the famous Spanish military leader Ambrosio Spinola Doria, made by Nuremberg’s Heinrich Mack 1616–26 (lot 481, 20/24.000).
Outstanding among the historic 100 jewellery positions are an old mine cut diamond necklace of 50 carats set in silver from the first half of the 19th century, as well as a perfectly preserved Renaissance-style necklace in its original case that shows the splendour and perfection of the best of international historism, stamped by Carlo Giuliano, one of London’s most famous jewellers (ill. left, lot 651, 20/30.000). Top lots of the boxes are pieces from a German private collection, among which are a classicist Florentine gold candy box with Pietre Dure inlays (lot 799, 15/20.000). From the early 19th century is a Royal Prussian presentation box from St. Petersburg (ill. left, lot 809, estimate 50/60.000).
